Devanagari: एकं सद विप्रा बहुधा वदन्त्यग्निं यमं मातरिश्वानमाहुः। एकं सद्विप्रा बहुधा वदन्त्यश्चिकेतं बर्हिषं देवजानम्॥
Translation: The wise ones describe the One Existence in many ways, they call it Agni, Yama, Matarishvan, The wise ones describe the One Existence in many ways, they call it Chiketa, Barhishad, Devajan.
This hymn suggests that the Supreme Reality is understood and described by the wise in various forms and names, indicating the diverse ways in which the ultimate truth is perceived.These hymns in Mandala 6 reflect the Vedic seers’ contemplation on the nature of reality and the divine essence underlying existence, even though the explicit term “Supreme Reality” may not be used.
That being said, Mandala 6 of the Rigveda is traditionally attributed to the sage Bharadwaja. These attributions are based on ancient commentaries and may not necessarily reflect historical accuracy.
